YHIS admits students from pre-school (age 2.5) to middle school grades as space allows throughout the school year. YHIS wishes to enroll students who exhibit an eagerness for learning. Accordingly, our admission process concentrates on examining each child’s potential to contribute to and benefit from participating in the diverse YHIS community.
Applicants are placed into a grade level according to birth date with a December 31st cutoff. In addition, maturity, motivation, social skills and educational achievement are all considered. We strive to place each child in the class and grade level deemed to be the most appropriate and beneficial to that child.
We accept students with no prior knowledge of Chinese into our early childhood programs. Children do not need Chinese support at home to succeed in this immersion environment.
For elementary and middle school applicants, basic Chinese listening and speaking skills are required. We will consider applicants with no or minimum Chinese language skills if they are enthusiastic about learning in general and motivated to learn Chinese in particular.
