YHIS admits students from pre-school (age 2.5) to middle school grades as space allows throughout the school year. YHIS wishes to enroll students who exhibit an eagerness for learning. Accordingly, our admission process concentrates on examining each child’s potential to contribute to and benefit from participating in the diverse YHIS community.
Applicants are placed into a grade level according to birth date with a December 31st cutoff. In addition, maturity, motivation, social skills and educational achievement are all considered. We strive to place each child in the class and grade level deemed to be the most appropriate and beneficial to that child.
We accept students with no prior knowledge of Chinese into our early childhood programs. Children do not need Chinese support at home to succeed in this immersion environment.
For elementary and middle school applicants, basic Chinese listening and speaking skills are required. We will consider applicants with no or minimum Chinese language skills if they are enthusiastic about learning in general and motivated to learn Chinese in particular.
Step 1. Attend an Open House or a tour by appointment (609-375-8015, ).
Step 2. Submit an application (registration form here) with fee ($50).
Step 3. Attend a half-day playgroup (for applicants entering pre-school through kindergarten) or a one-day visit (for applicants entering 1st grade and up). After the visit, one or both parents attend an interview with our Director of Academics.
Step 4. Have your child’s current school submit the required teacher referral form (for applicants entering first grade and up).
Step 5. Receive admissions decision at the end of March. Thereafter, applications are accepted if space is available or will be waitlisted.
YHIS is an equal opportunity institution. YHIS does not discriminate in admissions decisions on the basis of applicants’ race, ethnicity, family type, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, immigration status, religious and spiritual beliefs, disabilities, or socio-economic status. YHIS affirms cultural diversity.
