In the Chinese language, "Ying" means English, and "Hua" means Chinese. Together, "YingHua" means blossom, the most magnificent state of a plant, which captures the essence of a Chinese-English dual language school like YingHua International School.
On May 4, 2007, five years to date after founding the weekend-based YingHua Language School, Dr. Bonnie Liao founded YingHua Day School (YHDS) to provide a full-time Chinese immersion edcuation to a diverse student population starting from age 3 through elementary grades in Lawrenceville, New Jersey.
In spring 2009, YHDS changed its name to YingHua International School (YHIS) to reflect more accurately the international nature of the curriculum and the diversity of its student population, and moved to Princeton, New Jersey.
In May 2015, YHIS received accreditation from the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools (MSA-CESS).
In August 2016, YHIS moved into a new, spacious facility, formerly a public elementary school, in the historical town of Kingston, New Jersey.
In June 2017, YHIS became an International Baccalaureate® (IB) World School, offering the prestigious Primary Years Programme to students in early education years through 5th grade.
YHIS is on track of applying to be an IB MYP candidate school in the spring of 2018.
